Pilot Distillery

Training and Development

Our new pilot distillery has been designed to provide a flexible, practical facility for industry training, process development and small-scale trial production.

The distillery enables producers, distillers and technical teams to explore and refine each stage of the production process in a controlled environment before committing to full-scale manufacture.

The facility includes a dedicated mashing system with mash conversion vessel and lauter tun, a temperature-controlled fermentation system, and a spirit still fitted with a reflux cooling jacket. Together, these allow accurate control over key processing conditions throughout mashing, fermentation and distillation.

The distillery can be used for a wide range of purposes, including:

  • pilot-scale production trials
  • recipe and process development
  • evaluation of raw materials and fermentation conditions
  • investigation of distillation parameters
  • staff and industry training
  • practical demonstrations and research projects

By working at pilot scale, producers can investigate new ideas, compare processing conditions and generate useful technical information without the cost and disruption associated with full-scale production trials.

Washbacks

The facility also complements Tatlock & Thomson’s analytical laboratory services, allowing production trials to be supported by chemical analysis where required.
